Backtesting
Trading backtesting software to replay the market bar by bar
UNFLD's backtester is a manual replay. Pick a market and a start date, and the chart plays forward one bar at a time while you trade it as if it were live. It's for testing your own strategy against history and building the screen time to trade it, not for running automated code.

01
How a replay works
Each replay is a session you can leave and come back to, with its trades, notes and results saved.
- 1Choose a market, a start date and a starting balance, as a normal backtest or a prop firm challenge.
- 2Play the chart at the speed you set, step one bar at a time, or skip ahead.
- 3Place market or pending orders with a stop and a target, sized in fixed lots or by the amount you want to risk.
- 4Close the session when you're done, and resume it later from where you left off.
02
Markets and historical data
Eight markets: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, gold (XAU/USD), the E-mini S&P 500 (ES) and the Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 (MNQ, on NQ's price history).
Each has around the last two years of 1-minute candles, with the higher timeframes built from them: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H2, H4, D1 and W1. The replay form shows the exact dates available for the market you pick.
03
The chart tools you trade with
Draw lines, levels and boxes as the chart plays. Mark the Tokyo, London and New York sessions, and add indicators: moving averages (SMA and EMA), VWAP, Bollinger Bands, Ichimoku, Supertrend, Keltner and Donchian channels, pivots, RSI, MACD, ATR, Stochastic and ADX.
Show a volume profile of the candles in view, or drag one over any range of the chart.

04
Results for every session
Every session has its own results page: starting and ending balance, total trades, net P&L, win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average risk-to-reward, average and largest win and loss, and max drawdown.
A few dozen trades can flatter a strategy, so take the results with the sample size in mind.

05
Prop firm challenge mode
Set a profit target, a max daily loss, a max loss that is static or trailing, and a minimum number of trading days. Hitting the target passes, breaking a limit fails, and either one ends the replay. A normal backtest has no target or limits, and runs for as long as you like.

06
The backtester and the journal
They do different jobs. The backtester tests a strategy on history; the journal records the trades you take with real money. Backtest trades stay in their session, apart from your journal and its analytics, so practice never changes your real numbers.
Write the strategy down on the Strategies page, rehearse it in replay, then journal it live and see whether the results hold up.

Questions
Does the backtester run automated strategies?
No. It's a manual replay: you watch the chart play forward and place each trade yourself. There is no strategy code, scripting or automatic optimisation.
Which markets can I backtest?
EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, gold (XAU/USD), ES and MNQ, from the 1-minute chart up to the weekly.
How much historical data is there?
Around the last two years of 1-minute candles for each market. The replay form shows the exact range for the market you pick.
Is backtesting free?
Free includes 1 backtest session over any rolling 30 days. Starting a session uses one, and deleting it doesn't give it back. Gold, at £19.99 a month, includes 10, and Platinum is unlimited.
Can I backtest a prop firm challenge?
Yes. Challenge mode takes a profit target, a max daily loss, a static or trailing max loss and a minimum number of trading days, and tells you whether you would have passed or failed.
