Chart patterns
A steady trend, then a steep speculative 'bump', then a reversal once the trendline breaks.
Thomas Bulkowski's bump-and-run reversal has three parts. A lead-in: a steady trend along a trendline. The bump: price suddenly accelerates at a much steeper angle, often driven by excitement or news. The run: the bump rolls over, price falls back to the original trendline, breaks it, and runs the other way. The bottom version is the mirror.
In Bulkowski's daily stock data, bump-and-run bottoms rank among the better performers for upward breakouts.
