The candle that retested an order block that held: price often launches from it again.
Illustration, not real market data.
What it is
A propulsion block is a continuation zone. After an order block forms, price comes back to it; the candle that retests the block, reaching into it without closing beyond its far side, and from which price then 'propels' away, is the propulsion block.
It sits on top of the order block (for a bullish one) and is a shallower place to rejoin the move. Like most of the block family, it comes from ICT's own teaching rather than older technical analysis.
How to spot it
Start with an order block that price has returned to and respected.
The candle that did the retest (a down candle in a bullish setup) and held around the block's 50% level is the propulsion block.
Price should leave it with energy, ideally breaking the recent high.
How to use it
Look for longs when price pulls back into the propulsion candle's range, with the stop below it or below the order block.
If price closes back below the order block, both zones have failed.
Common mistakes
Marking any candle near an order block; it has to be the retest that held.
Expecting it to hold when the higher-timeframe draw is the other way.
